Inspired by my visit to the steel manufacturer Stahl Judenburg, I created a lighting concept for the Magdalena-footbridge.
Piston rods, propeller shafts, crankshafts and especially the red-hot rolling process of steel rods form the main motif of this kinetic lighting concept.
The uncovered tubes alongside the Magdalena-footbridge are used to display the motif of red-hot steel during the rolling process. Theses tubes, which are actually used for district heating, are lit in a way that they appear to be glowing from the heat of rolling during their production, fiery gliding across the river Mur.
On the other side of the path, one can find a crankshaft that is connected to and powered by the Mur. It rotates depending on the flow of water. The crankshaft sets steel rods into a wave-like motion. The tips of the rods are glowing brightly, thus creating spectacular lighting for cyclists and pedestrians that takes direct reference to the power of the river Mur.
